Library eBooks and audio books for your Kindle Fire

1. Visit the Appstore:
Search for “Overdrive” in the Appstore on your device. Select OverDrive and download the free application.

2. Launch Overdrive and authorize your device:
The first time you open the app, you will see the following message: “Sign up for an OverDrive account to enjoy eBooks, audio books, movies, and more from your library.”

Tap “Sign up”

Tap “Sign up using library card”

Enter “Elm Grove Library” and tap “Go”

Select “Bridges Library System-Elm Grove”

Sign in by selecting “Bridges Library System,” and entering your library card number, and pin/password (For cards issued before 11/2012, your pin is your birth date (mm/dd/yyyy); for cards issued after 11/2012, it is the last four digits of your phone number)

3. Choose your library:
You are now signed up for Overdrive and almost ready to browse and add titles.

First you will need to add the Wisconsin Library Consortium to the app (where you can shop for titles). To do this, tap the “Add a Title” icon.

Enter “Elm Grove” and tap “Search.”

Tap “Bridges Library System-Elm Grove.”

Tap the star next to “Wisconsin Public Library Consortium.” The star will turn blue. This will save the consortium catalog to your list so you will not have to search for your library every time you use the app.

Tap anywhere to the right of the star to access Wisconsin’s Digital Library.

4. Sign in to Wisconsin’s Digital Library:
At the top of the page, tap “Sign In.”

Select “Bridges Library System,” and enter your library card number and pin/password and tap “Sign In.” (Note: If you do not want to have to sign in every time, make sure the “Remember my card number on this device” icon is checked.)

5. Find books or audio books:
You can browse the collection two ways:

1) Tap the magnifying glass to manually search for a title or author.

2) Tap the "three horizontal lines" icon to browse categories. (When browsing, you can filter your search to limit results by availability, format, subject, etc.)

6. Check out your book:
Tap on the book cover. Tap “Borrow” to check the book out. You will be given the opportunity to select how long you would like to borrow the item for. (Note: Make sure “Kindle Book” is one of the available formats)

If all copies of the title are checked out to other users, you will see a “Place a Hold” button instead. Tap there and enter your email address to be notified when the book is available to check out.

7. Getting your item:
Once the book is checked out to you, it will appear on the “Loans” page in your account (the "three books" icon). You then have a few options for reading/listening on your device:

1) Read in browser
This option allows you to read the book without downloading it. Tap “Read Now” (in your browser) to begin.

2) Download to the OverDrive App
To download the book to your Overdrive app, tap “Choose a Format” and select “EPUB eBook”. The book will be added to your bookshelf in the OverDrive app. Access your bookshelf by tapping the "three horizontal lines" icon in the far left corner. Tap the cover to open it.

3) Transfer to your Kindle Library
Tap “Choose a Format” and select “Kindle Book.” Then tap “Get Kindle Book”
You will be redirected to Amazon.com to complete the transfer process.

Tap “Get library book.” If you are not already signed into your Amazon account, you will be prompted to sign in now. If you own more than one Kindle, make sure your Kindle Fire is selected from the list. Click “Continue” if prompted. The book will be delivered wirelessly to your Kindle library.

4) Audio books
Audio books can either be listened to in the browser (must be connected to wi-fi), or downloaded and added to the app (as an MP3 Audio book).

Helpful Hints

An item’s availability will be indicated just above the book cover. “Available” means the item can be checked out immediately. “Wait List” means the item is unavailable. (You can request a hold for the item).

To find out what options are available for a book:
Click on the book cover. Tap “Available formats” to expand the list. A different format corresponds with each option:
-Kindle Books can be transferred to your Kindle library.
-OverDrive READ indicates that the book is compatible with OverDrive READ.
-Adobe EPUB eBooks can be downloaded to the OverDrive app.
-Adobe PDF eBooks are NOT compatible with your device.
If a format is not listed here, it is not available for this title.

You can filter incompatible books out of your search by choosing these formats from the filters on the top of the search page.

I can’t find the book I’m looking for.
Not every book is available through Wisconsin’s Digital Library. You do have the opportunity to recommend a title be added to the collection. Simply click “Recommend” where prompted.
