HISTORY PROJECT

In the 1850's Mother Caroline Friess, SSND purchased 40 acres from  a local farmer to establish a girls' orphanage and a home for retired sisters. Over the years several buildings were constructed to serve the needs of the members of the religious community. The photographs in this collection are of the early buildings and the surrounding village.

This online collection was created by Rita A. Miziorko, MLIS for the Elm Grove Public Library Digital History Project.  The assistance of  Mark Braeger, Associate Director for  Communications and Sister Suzanne Rene Sobcynski, SSND, Archivist is gratefully acknowledged.
