    June 26, 2018, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM @ O'Neill Room

In conjunction with Boswell Books, the Elm Grove Library welcomes Kathleen Rooney for a discussion & reading from her national bestseller, Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk. The novel, based on the life of 1930s Macy's ad writer and poet Margaret Fishback, is a meandering walk around 1984 New York, as an 85 year-old Lillian meets bartenders, bodega clerks, security guards, criminals, children, and parents, reviewing her life of excitement and adversity, passion and heartbreak. It's a love letter to New York and a portrait of a remarkable woman across a changing America: from the Jazz Age to the onset of the AIDS epidemic; the Great Depression to the birth of hip-hop. And bring your notebook! The evening will also be a book club night, with recommendations from Elm Grove librarians and Boswell booksellers. Books will be available for sale.
